A gaming TV earns the name by keeping up with a current console or a gaming PC, and that comes down to two things working together: a 120Hz panel and at least one HDMI 2.1 input. A PS5, Xbox Series X or a capable PC can push 4K at 120fps, but you only get that on screen if the panel can refresh 120 times a second AND the port can carry the signal. HDMI 2.0 does not have the bandwidth for 4K at 120fps, so an HDMI 2.1 connection is required to move that picture from the console to the panel. That is why every set on this list clears both bars: a 120Hz panel with no HDMI 2.1 port cannot accept a 4K120 signal, and an HDMI 2.1 port on a 60Hz panel has nothing to do with the extra frames. The two go together, so we gate on both. If you want the background on frame rates, see our 60Hz vs 120Hz explainer.
Past the 4K120 combo, three features do the rest of the heavy lifting. VRR (variable refresh rate) syncs the TV to the console's live frame rate so you avoid screen tearing and stutter when the frame rate dips. ALLM (auto low latency mode) tells the TV to switch itself into game mode the moment it detects a console, so you do not have to dig through menus. And low input lag is what makes the controls feel responsive: game mode strips out the picture processing that adds delay, which is exactly what you want when timing matters. Numbers vary by model, so check the spec for your shortlist.
Start by thinking about what you actually play. If you are gaming casually, or on a last-gen console like a PS4 or Xbox One, none of this is essential and a good 60Hz set will do the job nicely. This list is for people gaming on current hardware who want the TV to keep pace with it.

To pick from the list, start with the basics that always matter: the size that suits your room and viewing distance, and a price you are happy with. Every set here clears the 4K120 bar, a 120Hz panel plus HDMI 2.1, which is the filter that got it onto the page. VRR, ALLM and the number of HDMI 2.1 ports vary by model, so if you run more than one current-gen device or specifically want variable refresh rate, check the spec on your shortlist.
The one detail worth checking before you buy is how many HDMI 2.1 ports a set has. Some sets carry only one or two, and if you are running a PS5, an Xbox Series X and maybe a gaming PC, you can use them up quickly. Count your current-gen devices and make sure there are enough of the right ports to go around. If you are still weighing up the panel type or the platform, our guides on OLED and smart TV operating systems cover the rest of the decision.
